3 Reasons Why Copyright Free Music is Better

In any case that you need to use music for a production, a project, or even just a video blog that you plan on posting on your own social media profile, it's best that you use copyright free music. Of course, your first thought would be that you'd love to use that catchy tune from the radio on your makeup tutorial video, but you should know there are a whole lot of reasons why you definitely shouldn't. Royalty free music is the best way to go especially if you're just making videos for fun. But if you're not sure why you should use copyright free music and you insist on going with your favorite song and stock audio instead, these reasons should prove to you why you shouldn't.

1.    It's Expensive - Yes, you read that right. What a lot of people don't know is that copyright music is expensive especially when you want to play it in one of your own personal productions. Why? The people behind the music will ask you for a royalty fee for using their music, and that's only right considering that it is their property. Now, if what you're making is a commercial, using a copyright song means paying a royalty fee every time it's played on TV. With that, you might end up paying more for royalties than you earn with what you're trying to advertise. If you're running low on the budget, it would be best to stick with stock audio.

2.    It's Messy - There have been instances in the past when people sang songs on video which was subsequently posted online for fun only to find themselves being hounded by the ASCAP for using background music without permission. It sounds a little farfetched, but the people behind those songs will fight for their right to royalties, and they will sue if you refuse to pay up. Unless you're ready for that mess, choose to use copyright free music instead.

3.    It's Easy - Asking permission to use specific music in your video could take a while, especially with so much documentation and process to follow. If you don't really want the hassle of going through all of that, it's best that you stick with royalty free options. Just open your browser and conduct a basic search - a whole bunch of websites that offer to provide you copyright free music should pop up. Simply download the files you need and you're ready to start your production - sans all the copyright issues.
